Cardiovascular Holding Unit

To enhance the quality of care afforded to cardiac patients, St. Dominic's makes available a 14-bed Cardiovascular Holding Unit (CVH). CVH provides a specialized area for patients who undergo invasive cardio diagnostic testing that requires them to remain less than 24 hours in the hospital. This includes those admitted for cardiac catheterization, electrophysiology procedures and coronary angioplasty and stent procedures.

This specialized unit allows patients to be placed in an environment staffed with nurses specifically trained and experienced in taking care of cardiac patients. In addition to EKG monitoring, a strong educational component is provided for patients and their families. Patients experience an expanded continuum of care by receiving both their pre-procedure and post-procedure care tended to by the same familiar staff. One to two family members are allowed to remain in the room with the patient to relieve anxiety -- for both the patient and family. This area also prepares AM Admit patients for cardiovascular surgery.
