St. Dominic’s Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Services is nationally accredited from the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation and has maintained accreditation since 2005, receiving recertification in 2011. The program has provided care to many cardiac and pulmonary patients since its inception in 1996. Our program is currently under the direction of Reid Cotton, M.D.
What to Expect
Your first day of cardiopulmonary rehabilitation will include an assessment. This will be used to create your individual treatment plan. Patients will complete a questionnaire on diet and quality of life and participate in a physical activity assessment including an EKG and blood pressure screening.
Once the assessment is complete, a physician-directed treatment plan, with patient input, is created. Each treatment plan is structured specifically for each individual patient and includes education to help manage and reduce risk factors, dietary information, and an exercise prescription.
Each exercise session is medically supervised and lasts approximately an hour. Many treatment programs last up to 12-weeks, but could be longer or shorter depending on the patient’s individual needs.
Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation helps patients:
- Improve quality of life
- Improve breathing
- Increase muscle strength and endurance
