Gero Psychiatric Services
At. St. Dominic's Behavioral Health Services, we care for many types of psychiatric conditions. Our services address not only mental health needs but also physical, emotional and spiritual needs.
Our state-of-the-art gero-psychiatric unit is specifically designed to meet the needs of the patient 65 years of age or older. Patients under the age of 65 will be considered on an individual basis.
- Suicidal thoughts or plans
- Severe depression
- Homicidal thoughts or plans
- New onset psychosis
- Cognitive dysfunction that is acute onset or has changed
- Delusional or paranoid thoughts
- Loss of interest or ability to care for themselves due to mental illness
Having an elderly family member with a psychiatric disorder can be as unsettling for the family member as it is for the patient. We encourage family involvement at every level of care. It is important for family members to understand the patient's illness and have the tools to make a successful transition.
