2015 Outstanding Achievement Award by the Commission on Cancer (CoC) of the American College of Surgeons (ACS). St. Dominic’s is the only hospital in the state of Mississippi to receive this award in 2015 and is one of a select group of only 50 U.S. healthcare facilities with accredited cancer programs to receive this national honor for surveys performed in 2015. The award acknowledges cancer programs that achieve excellence in providing quality care to cancer patients.

Accreditation by the NAPBC is granted only to centers that are committed to providing the best possible care to patients with diseases of the breast. Each breast center must undergo a rigorous evaluation and review of its performance and compliance with NAPBC standards. To maintain accreditation, centers must monitor compliance with NAPBC standards to ensure quality care, and undergo an on-site review every three years.
The Commission on Cancer (CoC),a program of the American College of Surgeons (ACoS), recognizes cancer care programs that meet a national quality standard and for their commitment to providing comprehensive, high-quality and multidisciplinary patient centered care.The CoC is dedicated to improving survival and quality of life for cancer patients through standard-setting, prevention, research, education and the monitoring of comprehensive quality care.
In 2014, St. Dominic’s was designated a Lung Cancer Screening Center by the American College of Radiology (ACR).
The ACR Lung Cancer Screening Center designation is a voluntary program that recognizes facilities that have committed to practice safe, effective diagnostic care for individuals at the highest risk for lung cancer.
In order to receive this elite distinction, facilities must be accredited by the ACR in computed tomography in the chest module, as well as undergo a rigorous assessment of its lung cancer screening protocol and infrastructure. Also required are procedures in place for follow-up patient care, such as counseling and smoking cessation programs.
The American College of Radiology recently awarded St. Dominic’s Center for Women’s Health two accreditations for Stereotactic Breast Biopsy and Breast Ultrasound Biopsy. With these designations, St. Dominic’s Center for Women’s Health is now recognized as a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence (BICOE).
The BICOE designation is awarded to breast imaging centers that achieve excellence by seeking and earning accreditation in all of the ACR’s voluntary breast-imaging accreditation programs and modules, in addition to the mandatory Mammography Accreditation Program.

The Mammography Accreditation Program provides facilities with peer review and constructive feedback on staff qualifications, equipment, quality control, quality assurance, image quality and radiation dose.
The Stereotactic Breast Biopsy Accreditation Program provides facilities performing stereotactic breast biopsy procedures with peer review and constructive feedback on their staff’s qualifications, equipment, quality control, quality assurance, accuracy of needle placement, image quality and dose.
The Breast Ultrasound Accreditation Program provides peer review and constructive feedback on staff qualifications, equipment, quality control and assurance, accuracy of needle placement and image quality.
