(March 16, 2017, Jackson, Miss.) St. Dominic’s has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of ApprovalTM for Advanced Certification in Inpatient Diabetes Care by demonstrating compliance with national standards for healthcare quality and safety in disease-specific care.
St. Dominic’s underwent a rigorous on-site review during which a team of Joint Commission expert reviewers evaluated compliance with national disease-specific care standards and inpatient diabetes-specific requirements. The team also reviewed and evaluated clinical practice guidelines and performance measures.
Established in 2006 and awarded for a two-year period, The Joint Commission’s Advanced Certification in Inpatient Diabetes Care is based on the American Diabetes Association’s Clinical Practice Recommendations and addresses standards related to:
- Staff education requirements
- Written blood glucose monitoring protocols
- Plans for the treatment of hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia
- Data collection of incidences of hypoglycemia
- Patient education on self-management of diabetes
- An identified program champion or program champion team
“Earning the Gold Seal of Approval is a testament to St. Dominic’s commitment to maintaining excellence and continually improving the quality of care we provide,” said Christy McGregor, MSN, RN, Director of Cardiovascular Programs at St. Dominic’s. “Joint Commission Advanced Certification in Inpatient Diabetes care demonstrates our ability to provide superior, individualized care and that patients can be confident in knowing their specific diabetic needs are being met.”
