(May 17, 2018, Jackson, Miss.) St. Dominic Hospital recently received awards from the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association for its commitment to quality stroke and heart care.
St. Dominic’s received the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get with the Guidelines®-Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award for its commitment to ensuring stroke patients receive the most appropriate treatment according to nationally recognized guidelines. St. Dominic’s earned the award by meeting specific quality achievement measures for the diagnosis and treatment of stroke patients at a set level for a designated period with the goal of speeding recovery and reducing death and disability for stroke patients.
Additionally, St. Dominic’s received the association’s Target: Stroke™ Honor Roll Elite award for meeting quality measures developed to reduce the time between the patient’s arrival at the hospital and treatment with the clot-buster tissue plasminogen activator, or tPA, the only drug approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to treat ischemic stroke.
St. Dominic’s has also received the Mission: Lifeline® NSTEMI Silver Quality Achievement Award for implementing quality improvement measures outlined by the American Heart Association for the treatment of heart attack patients. St. Dominic’s earned the award by meeting specific criteria and standards of performance for the quick and appropriate treatment of Non-ST-elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) heart attack patients by providing emergency procedures to re-establish blood flow to blocked arteries when needed. The American Heart Association’s Mission: Lifeline program’s goal is to reduce system barriers for the prompt treatment for heart attacks, beginning with the 911 call, to EMS transport and continuing through the hospital with treatment and discharge.
