(July 12, 2017, Jackson, Miss.) St. Dominic’s has once again been named a Most Wired Hospital and Health System of 2017 based on the American Hospital Association’s (AHA) 19th Annual Health Care’s Most Wired® Survey. This is the seventh year St. Dominic’s has been named one of the Most Wired hospitals in the nation.
“St. Dominic’s IT Department works very hard to implement technology that provides value and efficiencies not only to our staff and providers that practice at St. Dominic’s, but also to our community,” said Susan McDaniel, St. Dominic’s Director of Information Technology. “Even though our team doesn’t provide direct patient care, we keep our patients and their safety at the core of everything we do. We are proud to serve our community in this aspect.”
HealthCare’s Most Wired® survey, conducted between Jan. 15 and March 15, 2017, is published annually by Hospitals & Health Networks (H&HN). The 2017 Most Wired® survey and study is a leading industry barometer measuring information technology (IT) use and adoption among hospitals nationwide. The survey of 698 participants, representing an estimated 2,158 hospitals — more than 39 percent of all hospitals in the U.S. — examines how organizations are leveraging IT to improve performance for value-based health care in the areas of infrastructure, business and administrative management, quality and safety, and clinical integration.
“The Most Wired survey is a good benchmark to see how we are leading with Information Technology and how we can improve the quality, safety and service our patients receive,” said Keith Van Camp, St. Dominic’s Vice President of Information Technology and Facilities. “Being recognized is a great honor and assures us that we are meeting the highest standards with regard to Information Technology.”
According to the survey, Most Wired hospitals are using smart phones, telehealth and remote monitoring to create more ways for patients to access health care services and capture health information. In addition, these hospitals are increasing their use of sophisticated IT monitoring systems to detect patient privacy breaches, monitor for malicious activities or policy violations and produce real-time analysis of security alerts. Most Wired hospitals are also investing in analytics to support new delivery models and training clinicians on how to use analytics to improve quality, provide access and control costs.
