Surely Goodness and Mercy

The Twenty-Third Psalm is one of the most beloved chapters in the Bible. The words of the psalmist David convey words of hope and comfort in verse two, which states, “He maketh me to lie down in green pastures; He leadeth me beside the still water.” Hearing these soothing words at the end of one’s life is the desire of many. Clayton Jackson, RN, provided this gift for his patient in CCU as she faced her last moments alone. Reading Psalms 23 aloud helped the patient experience the joy and peace of God’s eternal promises while knowing someone cared. “Surely goodness and mercy” are more than just words of David— they’re the attributes that describe Clayton’s selfless gift to his patient when she needed it most.
